holistic expressive arts for life [HEAL]
Holistic Expressive Arts for Life will provide on-site expressive arts instruction for seniors living in subsidized housing complexes and to individuals without shelter. The new program was created by local artist Terry Lee Getz and Bon Secours St. Petersburg Health System. Three of the senior apartment towers in the downtown St. Petersburg neighborhood are providing their community rooms as a site for the classes. In addition to providing an improved level of social connection and proven holistic health benefits for the participants, HEAL provides an opportunity for Bon Secours St. Petersburg employees to get to know the residents and create the trusting relationships which form the basis of the Healthy Community Initiative’s organizing efforts. Weekly classes for up to 15 individuals are offered. Monthly meetings of graduates are held for continued learning and possible exhibition of art work.
